I am reading a book called “Mere Churchianity” by Michael Spencer (The Internet Monk) and in it he asks the question in Chapter 4 “If you were to spend 3 years with Jesus (from the start of His Ministry until His Death) what kind of person would you be?”
These are the kind of questions that I like because they make me think about modern western Christianity as opposed to what would we have seen Jesus do and how He would have handled different situations.
We do know that He had no issues with hanging around and talking to the outcasts of society. Prostitutes, Tax Collectors, homeless vagrants, immigrants and yes even those dreaded Samaritans.
What does that look like to us as we go through life in our fancy Churches and our cliques that we have known and loved for years not getting outside our own comfort zones to make a difference in a strangers life?
3 years with Jesus would I have learned anything. Peter had a problem with thinking he was something he wasnt (courage – he lacked courage) yet he became a leader of the Church.
Jesus also loved children. Admittedly I can be a little testy around loud, noisy kids and as I get older I am praying Lord change me because I know someday I will have grand kids and my wife will tell me to mellow out.
Anyway it was an interesting question – “If you were to spend 3 years with Jesus (from the start of His Ministry until His Death) what kind of person would you be?”
How would you answer it?
