Yesterday while purusing some of the Facebook posts I came across a post by a gentleman who decided to publicly shame someone for something he “thought” they might be doing. That is what the impotus for this blog post. Scripture lays out quite well how we are supposed to handle those we those we think are living in a sin of some type.

Matthew 18:15-17
“If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

Now this is a tricky one because it lays out the steps IF the offending party has sinned against you……not if you suspect they have sinned or are sinning.

1) Go to them privately. Do not put them on blast publicly on their Facebook page. That is not your place.

2) If they do not listen then take one or two others. Again this is tricky! They do not have to listen to you at all. They are not a part of YOUR Assembly, Church, Home Church etc. Stay in your lane!!!

Facebook is not your Church!!

You are not over them in Authority! That would be their Pastor, Shepherd, Overseer and ultimately Yah (God) If you know where they go to Church you can contact their Leader if you have serious concerns!

3) Do what the Scripture tells you to do. It is Facebook for goodness sakes! The block and delete button are your friends. Treat them as if you do not know them, dust off your sandals and move on.

Accusing people of doing something sinfull publicly is never a good idea. People who actually know and like them will come to their defence.

I believe we think that because someone is a friend on Facebook we have the right to get into their business. Nothing is further from the truth!
