Romans 13:1–7
“1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
I know what you are thinking. The Government is corrupt! Why should I submit to Governing Authorities? Why should I allow them to do whatever they want? Because God said so!
If we are Believers we have to believe God has a bigger plan. We have read about in the Bible (or have we?) We know this world is going to get worse for a lot of people.
There is a time of Tribulation coming and I believe that is being put in motion now. More and more people are struggling to make ends meet. Crime is rampant.People are not working. Greed has taken over.
Could this be the beginning of the time the Bible says are the last days?
What does the Bible say? 2 Timothy 3:1-5 “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy…” – Sound Familiar?
This is all going to happen the way God said it would. Pray for our Leaders. We may not like them, we may not like what they are doing but pray for them.
A Higher Allegiance
While the Bible encourages submission to the state, it also places clear boundaries on that power. When human laws conflict with divine commands, the Bible prioritizes the latter:
-
Prioritizing God: In Acts 5:29, when the apostles were ordered by local authorities to stop preaching, Peter responded, “We must obey God rather than human beings!”
-
Dual Citizenship: In Matthew 22:21, Jesus famously said, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.” This implies a distinction between secular obligations (like taxes) and spiritual devotion.
It is time to realize we have no power to stop what is coming except prayer and preparation. It will be ok. It is more important now than ever to help your neighbors, feed the orphan and take care of the widows around us.
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” — James 1:27
Let’s work together on that! All of the noise on social media is not going to help.
